I need to get one of those count down things to put on this blog. Anyone know where I can get one. I could do an internet search but that takes effort and frankly I’m exhausted from the whole retirement, job hunting thingy. Only ten days left until my husband’s retirement from the Air Force. My mother-in-law and my brother-in-law are flying in on 6 May to attend the retirement ceremony on the 8th. Heather and I will be picking them up from the airport on our way home from work. The 6th is also my last day with TSA. I am having lunch with work friends on the 5th. My husband is frantically applying for jobs in Tennessee. Surely, there is someone out there that could use a retired Air Force Senior Master Sargeant, E-8, with tons of administration, managerial and teaching skills. You can’t get more reliable than a military retiree. I have asked my husband to send me his managerial resume so that I can post it. Link to Husband’s Resume
One more thing. I always cry at graduations, weddings, chick flick movies and so on. I am certain to cry at the retirement ceremony. I’m a horrible crier. I do not look pretty with my red nose and blood shot eyes. Anybody have any techniques out there to keep me from crying? I do not wish to cry in front of a hundred people. Once I start crying I have a horrible time trying to stop.

I can’t imagine your husband having a hard time at all finding a nice job w/ those type of skills.
Just curious, how long has it been since you’ve lived in TN?

We have tried to go home yearly on vacations. Except when we lived in Japan, it was too far to travel. We have not “lived” in Tennessee since 1983. My husband’s family lives in Tennessee and my family lives in Tennessee. It has been very hard living away.

I know you said we would get credit for typos over at Shelby Rivers, how about here? I don’t think ‘junting’ is what you intended. First, I love your Shelby Rivers series and I wish I had more time…working on it, to keep up. I love the first installment and it has my mind racing, great stuff. As for your hubby, try and stop folks from hiring him…really. He will be just fine. Best of luck and try to not too stressed over the process.

Go ahead and cry! Of course the emotions will run high on a day as important as a retirement. Chalk it up as pride in your husband! I look up to all who have served in the military.

Kweenmama- I don’t want to cry…I don’t like crying. I have lots of pride which is why I will ultimately cry.
Slyde- Thanks for the info.

Hi Marsha,
Good luck with your search. Have you tried applying to some of the local colleges, I saw you have some admissions experience. State jobs are going to be tough right now since the Governor announced there will be huge layoffs. You might also want to contact the career placement offices at some of the community colleges. I would recommend Dr. Parrent at Vol State CC in Gallatin (they work with students and community members). Also, if you are looking a tthe Nashville area, check out the Career Transistion group (it meets in Brentwood every Monday). I can get you contact info for both if you are interested.
Good luck.
